60 Second Dance

.

.

We paired Yogis and Metal Heads in a dance challenge… can they choreograph a 60 second dance in only 30 minutes?

Transcript provided by YouTube:

00:00
– I’ll do it with the peck bounce.
00:06
– [Narrator] We brought two seemingly different groups
00:08
of people into our studio to see if they could unite
00:11
in a one of a kind dance challenge.
00:20
– [Narrator] What is your favorite dance move?
00:22
– I do like the hardcore, like the regular.
00:25
– Mine, I kinda it call the magnetic caterpillar
00:28
’cause it’s like my hand does a caterpillar
00:31
and then my body is like the magnet so I’m just like,
00:33
whoo, where is it going?
00:35
Down the tree, that’s where.
00:37
– I’m a little more classic,
00:38
I like a regular fist and just a good head bang.
00:42
Imagining slayer – The beard!
00:43
– In the background.
00:45
– When I’m dancing and going out,
00:46
it’s more about like being in the moment
00:48
So I like to just like hop and jump around a little bit.
00:51
– I like doing, I call it the hair flip booty slap.
00:58
Yeah!
00:59
– You just kind of like…
01:02
– Just a little bounce.
01:03
– Yeah, like a bounce from side to side.
01:05
– [Narrator] Do you know what you’re doing here today?
01:09
– I assumed that I was here to come and dance
01:11
’cause ecstatic dancing, that’s a yoga thing.
01:14
– Yeah! – Oh, ecstatic dance.
01:16
– [Narrator] Today, you’ll be choreographing
01:18
a 60 second dance routine to a song that I’ll be giving you.
01:22
– Okay. – Great!
01:25
– That’s awesome.
01:27
Yeah, that sounds cool.
01:28
– [Interviewer] You’ll only have 30 minutes
01:29
to choreograph and practice before the final performance.
01:33
– That’s the concerning part.
01:39
– Dance team!
01:40
– Dance team!
01:41
– [Interviewer] Before you start,
01:42
we’re actually gonna bring out a couple more dancers
01:44
to add to your team.
01:47
– The plot thickens, alright!
01:54
– How’s it going, y’all?
01:56
– When I first saw the yogis,
01:58
I thought they were gonna be kind of like
01:59
that interpretive dance type of people or they, you know,
02:03
you don’t know what the hell they’re doing.
02:05
– When I think of metalheads, I think of dark energy
02:08
and spikes and leather and chaos.
02:12
– I guess I was worried
02:13
that maybe our personalities might not get along.
02:16
I also wondered if they were disappointed that we showed up.
02:22
– [Interviewer] Alright team, this is your song.
02:29
– That’s right up your alley.
02:36
– It’s very happy.
02:37
– Classy.
02:39
– The stereotype of metalheads, I think, is usually
02:41
kind of the opposite of a yogi,
02:42
is they’re usually considered to be, I think,
02:44
aggressive, kind of closed in and angsty.
02:48
People don’t realize how accepting the metal community is.
02:51
Most of the time, I got to metal concerts
02:52
everyone’s just there to listen to music
02:55
that most people don’t listen to
02:56
and so there’s sort of a camaraderie.
03:00
– That’s a long 60 seconds.
03:03
– And we have to dance through all of it.
03:04
– Yeah.
03:05
– Great.
03:06
– [Narrator] Your timer begins in three, two, one, go!
03:10
– Um, cool!
03:12
– So…
03:13
– Something like that?
03:14
– In turn.
03:16
– So we go like one, two, three…
03:17
– I’m like, can’t wait to rip my pants.
03:20
– Yeah, I mean, we could do,
03:21
we could start with something like this, right?
03:23
One, two, three, four, and then like open up.
03:26
– [Jonathon] Yeah! – Five, six, seven, eight.
03:27
– What do we call this?
03:29
– Warrior two-ish.
03:31
– Someone who’s not a metal head,
03:32
they probably see it was kind of an extreme type of music
03:35
but I think there’s a lot of good energy channeled into it.
03:38
I just gravitated towards it from an early age
03:42
and one day, a friend asked me to DJ a bar
03:46
and I could not believe that someone would pay me
03:48
to play my records.
03:49
I’ve been doing it for about six years, now
03:51
and it’s kind of shaped me to be who I am.
03:54
– What’s another rock move we could do?
03:57
– Like, a hip thrust.
03:59
– Like one, two, three, four. – We could transition
04:01
into like…
04:01
– We could do eight count on that.
04:02
– Eight?
04:03
Okay.
04:04
– Eight?
04:05
A full eight?
04:07
– Initially, I thought there was no way
04:09
that we’re gonna pull this off,
04:10
it’s gonna be chaotic.
04:11
But as we were talking and starting to come up with stuff,
04:14
we gelled.
04:15
Oh, I got it!
04:16
We’ll do like, a mosh pit kind of a move, dance.
04:18
– Oh.
04:19
– A mosh pit?
04:20
– Yeah, so we’ll like .
04:21
Kind of, one, two, three, four, bam!
04:24
And then the chest like–
04:25
– [Annette] Is that what you’re doing?
04:26
Alright.
04:27
– One, two, three, four, bam!
04:30
One, two, three, four.
04:31
– [Kim] I don’t wanna hurt anyone.
04:33
– Bam!
04:35
– And then we catch each other in case in case–
04:37
– Yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:38
– It’s delicate, delicate.
04:40
– One, two, three, four.
04:41
– Wait, that doesn’t make sense,
04:42
maybe we should like bump butts or something.
04:44
– We could, yeah!
04:45
Sorry, my head’s just so small.
04:46
– No, and then I don’t wanna step on you.
04:48
Okay, we’re gonna bump butts, sorry.
04:49
Stitch it out.
04:51
– And then you could do like a handstand in the middle
04:53
while we’re doing like a mosh circle around you.
04:55
– Over the years, I had a really hard time
04:58
seeing myself as a yogi because the first yoga class,
05:00
I didn’t know any of the postures
05:02
and felt like I was just the one that stood out
05:04
’cause I just, was behind.
05:06
But no matter what level you’re at,
05:08
anyone can be a yogi, as long as you have that passion.
05:10
– What about your favorite move?
05:12
I love your favorite move. – The magnetic caterpillar?
05:14
– [Annette] Yes, yes!
05:15
– So basically, it’s like a caterpillar
05:17
and then you’re just following it with your body.
05:18
Like, imagine whoo!
05:21
– I feel like I’m very,
05:22
need some shrooms!
05:23
Some shrooms or something man.
05:25
– I think people assume that I’m a huge stoner
05:27
like a pothead, hippie, which is not true.
05:30
By the way, there’s nothing wrong with that.
05:32
Because you choose to do, but,
05:33
I just like tie-dye and I’m sober
05:36
and that’s probably like the biggest misconception.
05:40
– [Robert] Yeah and so– – Okay yeah, we’ll do that.
05:41
– Is it’s one, two, three, four,
05:44
and then one, two, three, four.
05:46
– I think it’s just two.
05:47
I think it’s one, two.
05:49
– I was a little nervous about whether or not
05:52
we would finish up in time.
05:54
Because I felt like we had lot of great ideas
05:56
but I didn’t know if we had enough music.
05:59
– I think all the yogis should do metal poses
06:00
and all the metal people should do yogi poses.
06:02
– Alright! – Oh, that’s fun!
06:03
I really was, really nervous
06:05
that we weren’t gonna have time.
06:06
– I don’t have a pose, give me a pose.
06:08
– Do a tree pose!
06:10
– Okay let me–
06:11
– Wait, but you’re in heels.
06:12
– I’ll do this thing.
06:13
– I’ll do it with the peck bounce.
06:20
– I started getting stressed at the very end
06:23
and I realized we only had like two minutes.
06:25
And I was like, oh crap, we can only do like
06:27
one or two full attempts
06:28
to get it down with the music.
06:30
– [Robert] From the top.
06:31
– Oh, we’re starting from the top.
06:32
– [Annette] Alrighty, all right.
06:33
– Last full, right here.
06:34
– I was a little anxious
06:35
’cause I’m a perfectionist and so I was like
06:38
okay, I don’t wanna be the one to F this up.
06:52
– [Travis] It felt like okay,
06:53
we got this routine, we got it down
06:55
and we can do it!
06:57
– [Jonathon] Believe it or not,
06:58
I don’t really get too stressed, most of the time.
07:01
So no, I wasn’t worried.
07:02
I was confident.
07:04
– [Kim] I don’t think I’ve ever
07:05
done a coordinated dance with anyone
07:07
so I was like, please don’t mess this up,
07:09
please don’t make them look bad.
