Are you familiar with the term “a dick measuring contest?”
That is when two or more individuals get into a competitive situation, usually over some superficial characteristic, to demonstrate their power, worthiness, or superiority over someone else. The problem with living your life like it’s a dick measuring contest, which many men do, is that there’s always someone else with a bigger dick. So if that’s your definition of masculinity, you’re in trouble.
Who you are is determined by your character and actions, not by the size of your bank account, the length of your dick, or how much sex you get.
- What if the traditional version, or definition, of masculinity is why men have a higher suicide rate than women?
- What if the very thing we think makes us strong, powerful, and manly is actually killing us?
- Might we all be judging and comparing ourselves straight into misery?
One of my favorite quotes is from Theodore Roosevelt, “Comparison is the thief of joy.”
Now, I have no idea if he was talking about his dick when he said this, but it doesn’t matter. If you feel empty, confused, or fake maybe it’s because you keep comparing what you have with what others have, what you are with what others are, what you do with what other’s do?
Do you go through your day judging yourself be comparing yourself to other men?
How much money you make versus how much they make, what you drive versus what they drive, how hot is your girl versus how hot his is etc.
Of course if you choose to enter an actual dick measuring competition (Yes! They really exist), embrace the judging and go for it. There are even smallest penis contests, so when you truly want to be part of a dick competition, there are plenty of options. Otherwise you are doing it unconsciously, from your shadow, and it rarely, if ever, will benefit you.
The only man to ever compare yourself to is you; as in the past version of you.
- Are you better than you were?
- Have you learned, grown, improved over time?
Look at yourself today and yourself in the past, years ago or days ago, are you happier, healthier, wealthier? Ask about whatever is important to you. If the answer is yes, great! If not, what are you going to do about it?
Notice how you feel and decide if there are things you used to do that you want to bring back into your life, or if there are new actions you want to take part in. See success as a feeling. Allow yourself to be the judge of your happiness, peace, fulfillment, joy, satisfaction… let success be how good you feel, not the size of your house, bank account, or dick.
Somebody loses every dick measuring contest. Stop stealing your own joy.
