We try our best to use more energy efficient sources in our home. Change our habits to save energy and make our homes more efficient in as many ways as possible. But do we place the same mentality on our businesses? I wanted to share with you some of the aspects of your business that might need to be recycled in some way.
- Recycling old servers and making things more efficient. Many businesses run off servers. They need them there to store, operate and keep things moving. But there many be servers in your system that you no longer have the need for, or potentially could upgrade to a more efficient service or use a cloud based software. For example, the fax server may long be overdue in terms of its use, and yet, still could be costing you in terms of the operation of it. Other aspects such as hard drives where things can now be much easily stored in cloud based servers. This not only keeps things eco-friendly, but it could also save your business on costs.
- Appropriately disposing of older hardware. Things are improving all the time. Systems are being upgraded, computers and hardware are getting smaller, and so you may find that you have an abundance of older technology just waiting to be disposed of. However, there are ways you can ensure that you recycle it correctly. There will be certain aspects of the hardware that can be reused and recycled, and other materials made from other parts. So ensure that you take it to the right place and dispose of it correctly as soon as you can.
- Introducing more energy efficient options. Is your business as energy efficient as it could be? Is it time to recycle some of the practices and routines you have with your business? A great tip is to consider things like replacing bulbs to LED energy efficient ones. Ensure that habits are changed in terms of switching hardware off at night. Keeping your business energy efficient is good for the environment and your carbon footprint, but it is also good for your costs within the business.
- Making it part of the business culture. Finally, making these physical changes is only part of the story, you need to ensure that this becomes part of your business culture. Habits need to be changed in terms of switching things off like lights and hardware, but it goes further with the likes of recycling raw materials like paper or cardboard. Materials that no longer serve your business. This is when having the right facilities for recycling in your business premises will help to encourage others to follow suit. Making it part of your business culture.
