Someone asked me this question yesterday.
Let me answer a question with a question: how much if any, education did you receive as you were growing up about sex, love, pleasure, and relationships? We go through life with no real education in these areas, and we’re just expected to get it right, know how it works, know what we’re supposed to do, and be good at it! We get so much education and training for other parts of life – but not sex.
So the first thing you’ll learn will be something you didn’t know before about sex, and you’ll be in a forum that allows for open discussion and questions about sex.
This is huge. For so many of us, sex is the part of life spoken about the least. And when it is spoken about it’s often with a lot of euphemism, there’s embarrassment, there’s shame. Being in a space where you can talk openly and honestly is so important. From this, you’ll find out that you’re normal, that other people have the same questions, the same issues, the same fantasies. And even if they don’t, it’s okay for you to have yours, because we’ve all got something. Incredible isolation comes from us thinking that we’re weird, that we’re strange, that we’re alone when it comes to our sexual world. Incredible liberation can come from realizing that you’re not alone.
And when we can make talking about sex normal, in the same way, that you talk about groceries, you begin to demystify it, you can have a different relationship with your sexuality, with your body, with your partner. You can begin to talk about what you enjoy, what interests you, what excites you, and what you don’t enjoy. We often do sexual things because we think we should, because we think that’s what’s expected of us, that’s what someone likes, even when they’ve never told us, because, well, that’s how it is in the movies, or that’s what we were told, or that’s just what we’ve always done.
Why should you come to a sex workshop? You’ll form a deeper connection with your self and your sexuality – it won’t be such a stranger anymore. You’ll be able to integrate your pleasure being into yourself more. You’ll become more sexually authentic, learn more about who you are, what you want, what’s important to you, and how you can make that a part of your life.
