Fed up with feeling fed up? If your mood is low and you’re struggling of late, there are a few good reasons why things might be getting worse. While these might not be the cause of the way that you feel, they certainly won’t be helping and so it’s well worth evaluating and making some changes if needed. Here are five reasons your mental health could be declining.
- You’re living in messy surroundings. It’s an easy cycle to fall into. You feel fed up, and don’t have the energy, patience or will to clean up. Mess and clutter builds up and you feel worse, and the cycle continues. You don’t have to be the most house proud person in the world, but if your home is untidy it’s seriously bad for your mental health. Research has shown that it increases stress levels and even affects sleep. Spend the day having a good clear out and tidy, if you’re able to rope in loved ones to help you then you’ll get through it as quickly as possible.
- You never learn anything new. Is your life work, eat, sleep, repeat? It’s the case for most of us, and while routine allows us to get things done, it can be so mundane. We can fall into a rut where we never go anywhere new, meet new people or learn new things. As curious human beings we crave new knowledge, and so give your brain what it wants! If you’re interested in nursing, look into fnp online programs. If you want to learn to cook, bake or flower arrange, take a class. If photography is your thing, why not see if there are any day courses being held locally to you to brush up your knowledge. You never know where these things could lead, but at the very least you’re pushing yourself and learning new information which is never a bad thing.
- Your diet leaves a lot to be desired. If you eat rubbish, you’ll feel rubbish. Simple carbs and sugary food create massive blood sugar spikes which can leave us feeling drained and give us false hunger signals. If you’re lacking the right vitamins and minerals, this can contribute to imbalanced hormones which can affect mood. Make healthy changes and do your best to live a healthy lifestyle. If you go on Pinterest, there are tons of recipes that include plenty of vegetables but taste delicious. It doesn’t have to be boring!
- You spend too much time on social media. Peoples social media accounts are their highlight reels. Showcasing the best and most exciting moments of their lives, it’s easy to scroll through and believe this is how they are all the time. By comparison your own life might feel dull, you might feel poor or unattractive. But none of these things are true, so it’s important to stop comparing yourself. If you find that social media leaves you feeling upset and not good enough then start limiting your time on it.
- You’ve not visited your doctor. Most of us will experience low moods from time to time, but if yours is ongoing then it’s time to see the doctor. Don’t bury your head in the sand and hope it will go away, seeing your doctor is proactive and can allow you to get the help that you need.
