The whole world
thinks you are
an amazing hero.
All because of one incredible act of bravery that saved the life of 1000s. There’s just one problem–you had NOTHING to do with it. Somehow you got all of the credit for this feat of heroism and the person who actually did it remains anonymous. As far as you can tell there is no way for anyone else to find this out–no matter how tenaciously they investigate what happened.
Book, TV, public speaking and movie offers are coming in every hour. You are getting invited to famous events you never thought you’d be able to go to, but with every reward and accolade you receive you are reminded that you haven’t earned it and somewhere out there someone actually deserves it instead of you.
But you don’t know who they are and the only way to find out is to confess to everyone what really happened (everyone is so certain of your valour that even if the real person did appear to call you out publicly, they would be dismissed as a deluded opportunist). Not only do you know that this will mean the end of your fame & fortune, but there’s also a very good possibility that your not having confessed immediately will turn you into a loathed pariah.
So, the question is, do you live the rest of your life knowing you are a beloved and successful fraud or do you risk cultural infamy and admit to the truth?
